March played poker with February
And bluffed away three days,
February just laughed, knowing that
They were the winter's strays.
March played poker with April
Wiser to the gain,
April coughed when the river thawed
And folded aces twain.
That's why February cuts it short
And willingly cedes three days,
Letting winter huff and roar
And win young March no praise.
That's why April's slow to come
With jacket soaking wet,
The perfect day she's cast away
Upon a sucker's bet.
