While supply and demand do play a major role in setting price in any non-regulated system, appearances might be starting to become more significant than the actuality, at least in any not-yet-critical system. From word-of-mouth rumour spread by oxcart and cellphone to carefully orchestrated media saturation by selected political messages: perception has always been inextricably linked with accumulation -- and selective filtring -- of available information. The World Tribune finds a rather unique way of bringing across the price inflation of oil due to the fear factor.
