After a period of extended drought, during which I had on occasion stood outside and watched as the massive, lightning-flashing, thunder-grumbling cloud moved neatly to avoid our area: finally, it rained yesterday, the kind of steady rain that the baked ground thirstily soaked up, just hard enough that the ground was able to soak it up.

It rained like this for almost two hours. And afterward: a brilliant, sharply edged double rainbow, quietly enclosing the city within its arch.
